ORANGE READ
Orange Lining ‘Lines’ will be Read Aloud from West to East: PSU to Milwaukie
April 15, 7pm – 9pm
In Other Words Books, 14 NE Killingsworth Street, Portland, OR 97211
The “Figures of Speech” monthly reading series, held at In Other Words Books on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, is featuring the Orange Lining Project, a two-part public art project developed by Buster Simpson and Peg Butler for TriMet’s new 7.3 mile Portland – Milwaukie Light Rail (PMLR) Transit Project.
103 short lines of text, out of 1100 submitted through a public call for writings, were selected for the project
through a blind juried process. The lines had to be 50 characters or less and authors were asked to evoke places, people, and travels along the new light rail alignment. The chosen lines have been painted, 17” tall, onto erosion control fencing that has been installed as needed during light rail construction and are being stamped into the fresh concrete sidewalks facing the new rail tracks and
stations.
Volunteers, from the group of 57 authors involved in the project, will read the lines. Background information and images from the project will also be presented.
